25177 leads 25214 into Nottingham station platform 5 with 1M02, 12:32 Skegness – Leicester service, 30th June 1979. 25177 was originally D7527 and was delivered from Derby works to Toton during January 1965 as part of a large batch of Type 2’s replacing steam on the Midland Main Line. In October 1971 it was one of a four Toton class 25’s (7525 – 7528) transferred to Willesden and it would remain a London area engine (moving over to Cricklewood) until withdrawn. In the first two months of 1979 25177 received its last classified repair (general) at Derby works and surprisingly, as it was vacuum brake only it survived a nine month stay at Derby works from February 1980 receiving collision repairs. 25214 was originally D7564 and was delivered from Derby works to Toton during November 1965. The month of November 1982 proved to be a disastrous month for class 25's with twelve being withdrawn. This included both 25177 and 25214. Following withdrawal 25177 was moved to Stratford for re-railing exercises and during the Stratford Open Day on the 9th July 1983 the local engineers had 25177 on its side in a demostration of how rolling stock is re-railed. 25177 made its final leisurely journey between the 5th - 14th June 1984 as 9Z28, Stratford – Swindon works, accompanied by 08550 and 40092 and was broken up in May 1986. Following withdrawal 25214 visited Stratford, Healey Mills and Doncaster before eventually being dragged south to Swindon works. It would spend almost four years withdrawn prior to being broken up in September 1986.
