25279 stands in platform 3 at Derby light engine waiting for the road, 24th March 1979. Originally D7629 it was built by Beyer-Peacock at Gorton Works, Gorton, Manchester. At this point in time Beyer-Peacock were facing liquidation, so BR agreed to provide them with an order for a batch of BR/Sulzer Type 2 (class 25) locomotives. The Beyer-Peacock batch started at D7624, and was originally for a total of 54 locomotives. However, Beyer Peacock subsequently entered liquidation and asked to be relieved of the D7660-7677 batch (that were subsequently built by BR Derby). D7629 was delivered to BR on September 5th 1965. It went to Wath MPD on the Eastern Region as one of a batch for working through freights to the Midland Region. The locomotive was later re-allocated to the Birmingham Division, and entered Derby Works for classified repair and dual braking on 4th June 1969. 25279 was one of the very last of it's class in service, withdrawn in March 1987. It was moved to Vic Berry's Scrapyard in Leicester before appearing on a BR Tender form in late 1987. It was purchased for preservation on the Llangollen railway. It moved to the Great Central in June 2000 and is currently (November 2008) based at Ruddington.

From Ged Flannery at 2008-11-14 18:27:25 : I can see a class 45/46 drawing up along side the Platform in the distance.I was told that the Beyer and Peacock batch were "much" better built than the British Rail representatives.Beyer and Peacock did have a very good reputation for their engineering prowess, the Hymeks were also built and finnished to a very high standard.I do believe that this Company (now alas dufunct) could "really" give the likes of German Industry a proper run for it's money!!!!.There are not (at least I can not think of any???) any British Companies left who could back this claim up.I just can not believe that great Firms like Beyer and Peacock were simply allowed to go to the wall, with no chance of redemption!!!.All those hard earned skills and experience just thrown on the Scrap Heap,it ammounts to Indutrial Sabotage.
